Keeping Citizens Informed with Outdoor Digital Signage

Brief
Before installing outdoor LCD info point, the goal of Stumm municipality was simple: Provide citizens and tourists with a modern visual communication platform that is both interactive and easy to manage. The second wave of COVID-19 changed the goal from interactivity to efficiency. Having the right information at the right time become crucial. With outdoor digital signage Stumm had the right tool to distribute information with ease.

Situation analysis
Stumm has a population of just over 1,800 and lies on a sunny mountainside in the middle of the Zillertal Valley. The landscape is so typical of this region that it has served as a backdrop for several films. Through the years became an important tourist point in Tirol. In the summer months locals and visitors like to visit open-air swimming pool with an adjoining swimming lake. In winter, skiers and snowboarders can cross the Ziller river to the other side of the valley to reach ski resort.

Stumm municipality wanted to establish modern interactive communication platform. The idea was to place outdoor LCD sign in front of the town hall, which would:

  • Improve the public’s experience by providing information efficiently, in real time.

  • Deliver important information relevant to the community.

  • Effectively and instantaneously provide security and emergency alert information (such as COVID-19 safety protocols)

  • Promoting local business and important tourist attractions.

After the initial research they found that the climate in Stumm could present a problem for outdoor LCD totems. Even if the average temperatures are not extreme, temperatures on specific days can be. The goal was efficiency, both in the way of communication and ease of maintenance. Stumm wanted smart reliable solution.

Solution
They choose imotion FLOW 55” Landscape Wallmounted unit, which is ideal for direct sun exposed areas in temperature range of - 25°C to +40°C. Its IP56 enclosure and self-regulated thermal management is robust enough to defy Tirol weather. With the help of ControlMotion software Stumm system operators can rely on self-diagnostics and automatic alerts in case of failure. This way the maintenance and support of the unit it’s much easier and operators can dedicate time to quality content preparation instead.

55-inch high bright touchscreen is perfect for interactive communication. Integrated ambient light sensor take care for the right brightness. This way digital sign can operate with sufficient luminous intensity both during the day and at night, so that they can be comfortably seen and easily read by the users.

Public display
Imotion FLOW 55 inch full outdoor system was placed in front of the town hall entrance. The screen is equipped with PCT touch screen, which can be used with gloves.
