Why Optically Bonded Glass Should Be Avoided When Buying Outdoor Digital Signage?
Unfortunately, humans can sometimes act irrationally. Thus, vandalism is a common occurrence in public spaces. This is often due to the fact that a sense of ownership or responsibility towards public spaces can be easily forgotten.
Responsible manufacturer must acknowledge this occurrence by incorporating design features and materials that are resistant to damage. Due to this fact, all imotion signs have IK10 protection rating.
IK10 is the highest possible degree of protection. It is highly recommended for outdoor LCD systems to be certified in accordance to IK10 since the products will be placed in outdoor public places exposed potentially to various vandalism factors.
Manufacturers of outdoor digital signage use a variety of enclosure materials, but almost all incorporate glass as protection for the most expensive component, the LCD panel. Used glass should be laminated, as the lamination greatly improves the resistance of the glass to breaking and shattering. (4+4mm is better than 8mm).
Like all things, if someone is determined enough to break it, the glass will eventually shatter. If the glass is optically bonded to the LCD screen, both components must be replaced, resulting in high costs. Therefore, it can be argued that optically bonded glass is more of a design flaw than a design feature. As the glass doesn’t really protect the most expensive component LCD panel.
But don’t worry Infinitus got you covered. We don’t use optically bonded glasses. All components integrated in imotion systems, even 4+4 laminated glass can be easily replaced.
